This was an article posted on Stomp on 14 June 2011. Two Singaporean women were being detained, told to pay the Malaysia authorities RM6,000 or S$2,400, being told to strip naked and do squats and spend 24 hours in a overcrowded detention cell infested with insects. Just because they highlighted to an immigration officer that their passports were not stamped as they had passed a booth without an officer there. The immigration officer accused them of illegal entry and things began to be nasty.
The women were told to sign an undertaking which was in malay and were told to pay RM6,000 if they wanted to be let off by that day. The women were then brought to a detention centre where they were told to strip and do squats. They had to spend 24hours in an overcrowded cell which was infested with mosquitos and termites. At the end of the torture, the two women were only given a warning letter and not pay the Malaysian authorities money.
After reading this article, i felt outraged as the Malaysian authorities did not find out why the passports were not stamped and jumped straight into the conclusion that the women had entered the country illegally. The Malaysian authorities were too much in dealing with the women. I suppose there are others ways in dealing with the women then to get them to strip and do squats. Another way would be to inform the Singapore Police Force about it and get them to investigate. The Malaysian authorities should not have treated the two women from Singapore, as Singaporeans contribute the most to their tourism industry. All in all, the Malaysian authorities should have handled the matter better than to get the women to strip and do squats.
